Love Review

Angels and Airwaves has done it again. Who would have thought that Angels & Airwaves, originally thought of as Tom DeLonge of Blink-182's side project, had this much ambition in them. Well I sure hoped they did. Moreover, with their new album Love, I know it’s true, they have once again captured magical sound, and emotional feel in their music. Love is a project consisting of an album and a film of the same name, conceived of entirely by Angels & Airwaves. It's not really clear what the concept is driving all of this creation, but it's certainly a heady one. Of the release, DeLonge said, "It is the biggest release of my life, the pinnacle of my creativity. It's super conceptual and highbrow in many ways, very artistic, very Stanley Kubrick, but it's not a rock opera. It's a very modern version of what could happen when you blend the film industry and the music industry together in a very, very arty, kind of cool way with professionals involved all along the path."

This album had same old AVA feel, but a different kind of mentality behind it, a sort of “This is who we are now” kind of mentality behind it. In their past album they may have felt like they had something to prove to people, about their new band Angels and Airwaves, but in love, It more felt like they were doing this album for them, and for the fans, rather than to prove and win over new fans.

The album in itself sounds amazing, Take AVA’s already unique sound times that by three, and you have the musical genius behind LOVE, this is evident from the first track and on.

It was a Friday night, after a debate tournament, I had just gotten a Tweet from Tom DeLonge saying the album would be released on the Internet for free two days early, I was enamored with excitement! I instantly kicked my sister off the computer and, a few clicks later, I began the download. Immediately I was listening to the album I had waited months for, I was ready for LOVE- I was just waiting for it to take me in. Suddenly the speakers began to play. . . Et Ducit Mundum Per Luce" I was already able to tell that the album is extremely well produced with a nearly three-minute-long orchestration of synthesizers, piano and guitar building up to the second track, “The Flight of Apollo.” Beginning with a tranmisive sort of back tone, Tom shouts out “I FEEL YOU” Immediately reminding me of the Bands first track ever, Valkyrie missile, AVA had not forgot who they were. And I was ‘Loving’ every minute of this Album. For me, the apex of this album was “The Moon Atomic” with an epic into that should go down as one of the best of all time. The entire albums Lyrics are incredible and second to none as usual, The music and overall tone- pure elation, but the biggest surprise was how much Tom’s voice showed in overall improvement, he seems to have really found his range.

This Album lived up to its expectations, and if your wondering what I’m talking about, just go and find out, I mean the Album is FREE! But that doesn’t mean it’s not worth anything.

Tom recently said this, “We created this whole world around the band as a deep and philosophical adventure and immersed ourselves in it," (This is the main reason I love AVA, their message is deep, since, and Philosophical, can it get any better? Oh I think it can- FREE MUSIC) DeLonge said. "We personally went $500,000 in the hole on this album. But I believe music should be free. If I have to, I'll go sell blood and sperm to make that happen."

As the longtime singer and guitarist of recently reunited '90s pop-punk titans Blink-182, DeLonge probably won't have to donate his plasma any time soon. But to me is absolutely clear that Angels & Airwaves, founded after Blink's breakup in 2005 in part as a healthful escape from DeLonge's drug and personal problems at the time, holds his interest in different ways than his easygoing, frequently naked punk act.

"LOVE" is clearly a labor of such, where the planetarium-sized synthesizers of M83 bolster chiming arena-rock in the spirit of LOVE. And, I know that I will be loving this album for a very long time. Thanks for another amazing album Angels.

“Who do they think they are?”

“Their Angels and Airwaves!”

The Thrill of the Hunt

You are like a cat, my dear; to put it in a way that’s blunt.
For a cat is only interested, in the thrill of the hunt.
A cat will chase a mouse- for game- simply because its fun.
And once the mouse is finally caught, the cat’s interest is certainly done.

And hunt me-and others- you did; You hunted me with beauty, and graceful skill.
Knowing though that in the end . . . the mouse you’d have to kill.
But the cat continues on- to satisfy its insatiable need for pleasure.
Continuing to pursue the mouse; without emotional cause or measure.

The cat will hunt, and always catch the mouse, ready to make the kill
And the mouse will never get his last statement- his one final will.
But, if the mouse could have a say, what would be his longing confession?
The mouse would look up into the cat’s eyes, realizing his astonishing depression.

“Did you enjoy it?”, the mouse would say, reflective of devastation: “The game we played together?
Did you, have fun embarking with me on this, oh so frivolous endeavor?
Of course . . . it was Joyous and remarkably . . . a marvelous exploration,
For our inane attraction was driven by pointless, but pure elation,

Bun now I see, you were just in this for the hunt-a game to you- from the very start.
And now that I’m devoted to you; you simply want to part.
But what about what we had? Our affection, our emotion, was it all just a lie?
Was it all just your cunning plan to steal my heart, then to let it die?

And we did. We were together, and what we had . . . has been euphoric to say the least.
And the feelings I have, and feel for you, I thought would never cease.
But, in the hours of emotion and passion, did you ever think to see?
The time, and things, we shared together, were not a game to me.

I was enamored with you- hopeful for us . . . naïve to my very core.
And I, the ‘metaphoric mouse’ knocked right on the Cats front door.
And for a short time we had your hunt, your adventure, your fun, and your thrills.
But in the end, once the hunt is done. . The mouse. . . . The cat always kills!

But now, that it is all over, and all is said and done,
I can’t help but get the liberating feeling, that it's really me whose won,
For, I will live, and learn, to love once more again. And for you I can’t say the same,
Because for me love is something divine and pure, but for you it’s just a game.

Why I love Angels & Airwaves

I love Angels and Airwaves! Their music, their message, Everything!

I was introduced to Angels and Airwaves (AVA) about 4 years ago by my cousin. I listened to a few of their songs, and I liked them, but then I researched the bands message, and actually listened to each sound of the music, I read and embraced the lyrics and started to listen to all there songs. I noticed how much eloquence and feeling, and just pure love was being poured out in every single note and word. At this point every single song by angels and airwaves became like a short tip to heaven for me, like a realization of the beauty of music, and of true emotion of LOVE! AVA is the most beautiful, creative love inspired poetry ever to touch my heart. And the way life is portrayed through their music is how everybody should view life. AVA seeks to change our world with their music, and with love; I know they have already changed mine.
